On Wednesday 9 April 2008 the RWPGM attended the Regular Meeting of Lodge Montgomerie Kilwinning No.624, Skelmorlie. The IPM Brother Colin McLarty presiding,welcomed the Deputation from PGL of Ayrshire who then witnessed an excellent Mark Degree conferred by the brethren of the Lodge. The IPM invited the PGM to present PM Brother James Lever with a Distinguished Service Diploma in recognition of nearly 40 years faithful service to the Lodge. His service included 12 years as Secretary and no less then 20 times an Installing Master. The PGM was accompanied by Past PGM JH Ralston, Past Depute PGM JM NImmo, Past Substitute PGM P Connor and PG Secretary Robert W. Stewart who gave the Vote of Thanks at the close of the Meeting.
The Annual Visitation to Lodge St John No.11 took place on Wednesday 2 April headed by RWPGM Bro. Archibald Chalmers. Substitute PGM Bro. Neville Clark an Honorary Member of the Lodge was also in the deputation. RWM John Priest welcomed the Depuration into the lodge with his usual quiet sincere manner. Once again it was a pleasure for the PGL to grant Lodge St John a "Clear Minute" and congratulated them on the way the Lodge had progressed over the passed twelve months. Ably assisted by Brother Stuart McKenzie Muirhead who was acting PGL Director of Ceremonies, the RWPGM presented 50 year Membership Diplomas to two very worthy brethren of the Lodge. PM Bro William Milligan, who was RWM in 1967 and his son (also present at the meeting) Bro Campbell Milligan was was RWM in 1997. Brother Stan Koniczek Master Mason, was the second recipient. A Third Brother, William Houston, RWM in 1961, was unable to be present to receive his Diploma. Lodge St John No.11 is the oldest Lodge in the Province of Ayrshire having existed from before 1725 and is well worth a visit. You may go as a stranger but you will definitely leave as a friend.
The PGL visitation at Dalry Blair Lodge No.290 took place on Tuesday 1st April. The Deputation was headed by Sub PGM Bro. Neville Clark who was happy to Grant the Lodge a Clear Minute. also in the deputation was the RWPGM and Sub PGM William Raeside. The RWM of the Lodge, Brother Les Pearson, suitably replied.
The RWPGM paid an informal visit to Lodge Tarbolton Kilwinning St James No.135 on Friday 4 April. RWM Bro. David Rae warmly welcomed him into the Lodge for his first time as the new PGM and invited him to join him in the East. The business of the evening was a visitation from Lodge St David (Tarbolton) Mauchline no.133 to confer the FC Degree which they did in an excellent manner, much to the credit of the RWM and Lodge "133". A photograph was taken at the close of the meeting but unfortunately Brother Ian Anderson of Lodge St David was absent. The RWM's of Lodges No.1011 and 1060 were in attendance.
On Monday 31 March 2008 the PGL of Ayrshire paid their Annual Visitation to Lodge Wallace St Hugh, Crosshill No.1212. On this occasion the PGL Deputation was headed by Substitute PGM Brother William Raeside. Also in the deputation was the RWPGM Brother Archie Chalmers, Depute PGM Bro. Robert Little and Substitute PGM Bro. Neville Clark. The Lodge received a Clear Minute on this occasion. Brother Jim McBlain RWM, conferred Honorary Membership of the Lodge on Brother Neville Clark for services rendered to the Lodge and the Craft over a long number of years. Brother Clark made a suitable and fitting reply.
On 2 April 2008 17 Past Masters of Lodge St Peter Galston No.331 conferred the EA degree on one candidate. 101 brethren signed the attendance book. Lodge Coila St Andrew No.1334 entered the lodge with a large deputation to claim the Travelling Mallet. Past PGM Bro.John H. Ralston and Bro. Larry R. Smith Past Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Michigan also attended the Lodge and enjoyed the company of the Brethren.
The Annual Installation of Lodge Burns Dundonald No.1759 was held on 28 March 2008. RWM Tom McGuffie and his Office bearers were installed by Past Masters Bro. Willie Nicol 1759 and Bro. Adam Cunningham 1759. The toast to the Grand Lodge of Scotland and the Provincial Grand Lodge of Ayrshire was given by Bro. James Picken PM WSW 1759 and the reply from Bro. Billy Grant PGL Marshall. The visiting brethren were toasted by Bro. John Law WJW and the reply from Bro. Gillan Kennedy RWM Lodge Royal Blues Kilbirnie No.399. Bro. James Walker RWM of Lodge Darvel No. 971 toasted Lodge 1759 with the reply from Bro. Stuart Martindale PM 1759. Bro. Martin Broadfoot IG 1759 paid tribute to the Artistes and Stewards. There was a good deputation from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Ayrshire with IPPGM of Forfarshire Bro. George Golden Robertson enhancing the deputation.
On Tuesday 25 March 2008 the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master Brother Archibald Chalmers, paid an informal visit to Lodge Loudoun Kilwinning Newmilns No.51. The RWM Brother R. Stuart Lyon welcomed him into the lodge for his first time in his new position. At the close of the meeting the brethren socialised in the lounge downstairs. Better known as "LKN51" this lodge has the honour of having our National Bard Robert Burns as a Member. He was admitted a member on 27 March 1786 when his friend Brother Gavin Hamilton was RWM. The Lodge had a Chair on display noting that it was used by the Bard on that occasion. As you can see from the photograph it is a cosy wee lodge and well worth a visit.
