On Thursday 1 May, Worshipful Substitute Master Willie Raeside led a Deputation of PGL Office-Bearers to Lodge St. Marnock No.109 where he assisted the RWM to present Diamond Jubilee certificates to Past Master Ernest McClelland and Brother Hugh Harper. Each also received a present carefully disguised as a bottle of whisky. Both Ernie and Hugh treated the brethren to resume of their Army careers as well as their Masonic ones. All of which was well received. Also present was Brother Hugh's son, Past Master Hugh Harper.
On Thursday 1 May 2008 the RWPGM Bro. Archibald Chalmers led a Deputation from PGL into Lodge Beith St John's Kilwinning No.157. RWM Bro. Warnock Longridge was delighted to welcome the deputation knowing that they were in attendance to assist the Lodge with a presentation to PM Brother William Black. The deputation included Depute PGM Robert Little, Substitute PGM DCY Rankine, Past Substitute PGM's John C Taylor and Peter Connor, Bro Martin G Smillie and Brother David Stevenson. When the Office-Bearers of the Lodge were exchanged with those form PGL Brother Stevenston occupied the WSW's Chair in his Mother Lodge. Acting PG D of C, Bro. John C Taylor, presented PM William Black for the purpose of being presented with a neck jewel to acknowledge his Honorary PG Rank of Standard Bearer. Brother Taylor as long time friend of Brother Willie made the presentation in a very friendly and sincere manner. The PGM placed the Jewel around his neck and congratulated him on the Honour conferred upon him. Brother Willie had definitely earned his recognition and the brethren assembled acknowledged their approval by prolonged applause. Brother Black made a fitting and moving reply stating that he was grateful for the friendship of everyone present. He appreciated the gift from his Mother Lodge and that PGL had came along to present it. The RWM's of The Mother Lodge and Lodge Royal Blues No. 399 both expressed their delight at being present to witness tonight's meeting and wished Brother Black continued health and happiness in the years ahead. A truly memorable evening.
A well kept secret from the Province of North Wales. On 30 April 2008, St Deiniols Lodge No.3273 in the Grand Lodge of England this evening made Bro. John Coates PM of Lodge Troon Navigation No.86, an Honorary Member in recognition on over 20 years of unstinting support as a visitor to their Lodge. Bro. John was overcome but did manage to ask if he would be expected to pay for his meals from now on! PM Bro. John has been instrumental in the links between the Province of North Wales and with PGL Ayrshire, in particular his own Mother Lodge which on many occasions, especially at the annual installation, is well attended by our Welsh Brethren.
Brother Alasdair Conn of Lodge St John Royal Arch No.320 in Ardrossan, is presently making arrangements for his involvement with Operation Raleigh, which will see him visit Costa Rica and Nicaragua. In Nicaragua, he will be assisting with the improvement of community infrastructure such as Schools, Medical Centres, water supplies etc in one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere. Having recently suffered several natural disasters the country is desperately in need of this type of hands on assistance. While in Costa Rica, he will be involved in Environmental studies and projects. This will see him trekking through the forest and camping in some remote stations. The information collected will help to protect the natural resources and assist with better access to visitor centres. All of this is voluntary and Brother Alasdair is taking leave from his employment for the duration of Operation Raleigh. Both he and his family have held several fund-raising events to raise the much-needed finance. The Lodge of which Alasdair is a member have been in touch with the other Lodges in Ayrshire and this has resulted in some generous donations being sent to him. The Provincial Grand Lodge of Ayrshire has also made a donation of £300, which will be of great help in purchasing some of the personal equipment that Alasdair will require for his trek and camping etc. On Monday 28 April the Provincial Grand Master, Brother Archibald Chalmers and his Depute, Brother Robert Little, attended the Regular Meeting of the Lodge to present Brother Alasdair with the Cheque and to wish him every success with the experience. The RWM, Brother Colin Boyd was equally delighted to have the PGL come along and present the cheque personally to Brother Conn.It is a fantastic gesture by Alasdair to give up his time to go to foreign countries and give assistance to those less fortunate than ourselves. We take for granted the basic needs such as Schools, Medication, fresh water supplies etc.
On Saturday 26 April, RWM Bro. Craig Hamilton and the brethren of Lodge St. Andrew Kilmarnock No.126 were privileged to host the 8th Annual St. Andrews Gathering, a meeting conferred by the St. Andrew Lodges of Scotland. William Steel and the second being a deputation of the heads of deputations headed by Bro. RWMs and PMs of the various St. Andrews Lodges replaced the office bearers of 126 and thereafter conferred an excellent EA degree at the conclusion of which a very enjoyable night was spent in harmony with the assembled brethren. The collection on the day amounted to £140.50 which will be donated to C.L.I.C. After an appeal on behalf of PM Alan Brown's daughter, who is running the Cancer Research 'Race For Life' in memory of her aunt, Alan's sister, who just recently lost her battle with the disease, an amount of £200 was raised on retiral, which was very generously supplemented with a further £50 kindly donated by Lodge Coila St. Andrew No. 1334. The RWM and Brethren of Lodge St. Andrew No.126 would like to give a heartfelt thanks to all who attended, and assisted in making this a very memorable occasion.
