JOHN H RALSTON MEMORIAL BOWLING COMPETITION

The 2011 competition final was on held on Sunday 29 May 2011. It was won by Lodge St. Clement (Kilwinning) Riccarton Kilmarnock No. 202 who beat Lodge Prestwick No.1060 in the  final. The winning St. Clement team was as follows Bro. John Richmond PM, Bro. Bill Kerr, Bro. Joe Bolton and Skip Bro. Tom Baillie. The nominated charity this year was the  ELF which was set up to send two children who require urgent medical help which can only be given in America. The children who we hope will benefit from the money being raised not only by us but several companies and individuals in the local area. The total needed for the treatment is in excess of £100 thousand pounds. SPGM Bro. William Reside was in attendance to assist with the prize giving.

On Monday 5 July 2010 the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master attended the handing over ceremony of the cheque from the JH Ralston Bowling Competition to Help for Heroes which took place in front of the Kilmarnock war Memorial. David Gardiner of H4H was delighted to receive the £1000 cheque and expressed the appreciation of those who might well receive benefit from the donation. At the request of the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master the Provost of East Ayrshire, Stephanie Young, was also present. Mrs Sadie Ralston and the members of Lodge St Clement Riccarton (Kilwinning) Kilmarnock No.202 were each pleased with the results of the Memorial Competition which will now be an annual event. The Lodge kindly provided tea and biscuits in the Masonic Club afterwards.

On 22, 23 and 30 May 2010, the inaugural competition commemorating the life of PPGM John H. Ralston was held. On 22 and 23 the competition was held at Riccarton and Crosshouse Bowling Clubs. The final was held at Riccarton on 30 May.

The competition was organised by Lodge St. Clement Riccarton (Kilwinning) Kilmarnock No. 202 and the Provincial Grand Lodge of Ayrshire. Lodge St. Clement 202 presented a Trophy, which after being presented to the winners will be held at Barr Castle. Lodge Blantyre Kilwinning No. 557 presented a Quaich to be held by the winners until the next competition, a bottle of whisky was also supplied by 557. Lodge Prestwick 1060 presented the individual trophies for the winners and runners up.

The winners for the first competition was a team from Lodge Prestwick No. 1060 comprising Archie Patrick, Drew Rankine, Don Sharp and skip Ian Williamson. Runners up was a team from 202, comprising John McIlwraith, Sam Rice, Harry Stirling and skip Theo Waterside. RWPGM Bro Archibald Chalmers presented the individual trophies to the runners up and the winners. Bro. Bill Bannerman PM of Lodge Blantyre presented the Quaich and whisky to the winners. Bill and John Ralston started the relationship between 202 and 557.

Mrs Ralston presented the John Husk Ralston Trophy to the winners. Proceeds from the event amounted to £900.00 and augmented by a donation of £100.00 from Jonathon Oliver PM of 557. Mrs Ralston has requested that this money be given to Help for Heroes.
