The Annual Masters Dinner was held on Thursday 24 April 2008 within
the Masonic Club, London Road, Kilmarnock. The FIRST Masters Dinner was
held within the Masonic Club, Bank Street, Irvine in 1973. The next was
held in 1979 and has been an annual event ever since. It was the idea
of Brother Thomas Armour McColl who has left us this annual event as a
tribute to his ability to bring the brethren and their partners
together to socialise free from the encumbrances of Lodge Meetings. |
 |
|
Over the years their have been many varied entertainers, after dinner
speakers, singers etc. This year the RWPGM, Brother Archibald Chalmers
chaired his first Masters Dinner and all went very well indeed. |
|
|
Nearly
all the Daughter Lodges of the Province were represented as well as the
RWM of the Mother Lodge and his partner. The Guest Speaker was Brother
Jim Gibson MM of lodge St Andrew No.126. |
 |
|
Brother Jim is a Past
President of Kilmarnock No. 0 Burns Club, a Past President of the
Ayrshire Federation of Burns Clubs and a Past President of the Robert
Burns World Federation Limited. His address was based on Robert Burns
and some of his Kilmarnock connections which was very well presented and
greatly appreciated by the audience. |
|
|
One of the highlights of the
evening, especially for Brother Jim, was the display of the Mallet
gifted by Robert Burns to Lodge St John Kilwinning Kilmarnock No.22 on
the occasion of him being made an Honorary Member of the Lodge on
October 26th 1786. |
 |
 |
The catering for the event was excellent, as usual,
as was the Bar Service. In a change from having a guest singer the
RWPGM had printed a brochure for every one present. On it was the words
of four well known Burns songs. Those present enjoyed a bit of
community singing led by Brother Bill Garrety PM Lodge Troon Navigation No.86, Honorary Provincial Grand Lodge
Organist. |
 |
|
Brother William Steel, Substitute Provincial Grand Master, proposed a Vote of Thanks at
the close of the evening. (Brother Steel is the current President of
Kilmarnock No.0 Burns Club and the RWPGM is the Vice-President.)
