Past Master Iain Garrett of Lodge Mother Kilwinning is pictured receiving the Provincial Grand Lodge Golf trophy from Past Provincial Grand Master Brother Adam Cunningham for the year 2007. Past Master Iain was partnered by Past Master Jim Brennan also of Lodge Mother Kilwinning. Also pictured (right) is Past Master John Shirkie of Lodge Tarbolton (Kil) St James No.135 who is the Golf Convener and a previous winner of the competition. The trophy is now on display in the museum of the Mother Lodge. The competition runs from April to September on a match play knock out basis. There is no limit to the amount of teams which Lodges can enter. The matches are played across courses in Ayrshire where many brethren are members. The camaraderie which arises from these competitions has created many lasting friendships. This year 23 teams entered but it is hoped that eventually 30 teams will compete raising around £300. This year £230 was raised for PGL charity through the competition. The trophy itself is an interesting artifact. It was originally presented to the Earl of Eglinton by King George III and is therefore a valuable18th century antique.
