RWPGM Bro. William C Steel

24 MARCH 2018

The Installation of the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master Brother William Caven Steel and his Commissioned Office-bearers was held on 24 March 2018 in the Walker Halls Troon.

Around 300 Brethren attended from within and out with the Province. There was a large Deputation of representatives from the Sister Provinces who were welcomed in to Provincial Grand Lodge by IPPGM Brother Robert Little. The Deputation from The Grand Lodge of Scotland, headed by the Most Worshipful Grand Master Mason Brother Charles Iain Robert Wolrige Gordon of Esslemont, was received and once the initial exchanges were complete, Grand Lodge commenced the ceremony of Installation. The MWGMM was assisted by Grand Secretary Brother David M Begg and Bro. Revd. Ian Ramsden with Grand Director of Ceremonies Brother William H. Gauld directing the proceedings. The ceremony was efficiently carried out and completed to the delight and satisfaction of all present. Before presenting the Mallet of PGLA to the new RWPGM, the MWGMM in a most humorous manner gave the new RWPGM some sound advice whilst passing some light hearted compliments to the IPPGM. Following on from the ceremonial the new RWPGM Brother William C Steel along with the MWGMM presented cheques totaling£4600 to the following local Charities; Memories are Better than Dreams, Ayrshire ACRO, the Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra, The Holiday Project, Flowerbank Early Childhood Centre, Friends of Willowbank and Clyde Coast MS Centre. In addition two cheques were presented to the Most Worshipful Grand Master Mason, £1840 for the Grand Lodge Benevolent Fund and £1000 for the Masonic Homes Fund which gives a total of £7440 for the day.

The Brethren then retired to the dining hall where the festive board was held. The Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master Brother William Caven Steel welcomed everyone to the dinner and grace was said by the Provincial Grand Chaplain Brother Steve Clipston. Lapels badges and pens were given to each Brother attending from the RWPGM. This was a very thoughtful gesture and much appreciated by the Brethren.
DPGM Brother James Bell toasted the Grand Lodge of Scotland to which the Most Worshipful Grand Master Mason gave a fine reply laced with humour, sincerity and dignity. Brother William Perry RWPGM Lanarkshire Middle Ward toasted PGLA in a most eloquent and humorous manner to which the RWPGM replied. SPGM Brother Stephen McConnachie toasted the Daughter Lodges to which Brother David Smith RWM Lodge Irvine St. Andrew No.149 replied in a fine manner. The evening finished with Grand Director of Ceremonies congratulating everyone for their efforts. Everyone joined hands and sang Auld Lang Syne. Thereafter the company dispersed with the memories of another special day in the history of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Ayrshire.
