RWM Bro. William Crawford

The Lodge celebrated the 256th anniversary of the Poet's birth on 24 January 2015. In traditional fashion every seat in the hall was filled. The event was a sell out.
After the initial welcome the haggis was toasted in traditional fashion by Bro. Ian Boyd PM who enthusiastically gave a rendition of the toast assisted by henchman Bro. Colin Ritchie PM.
Bro. Rev. Alex Shuttleworth MM 135 sang a selection of Burns songs whilst readings were given by Bro. Cochrane Gourlay 135, Bro. John Shirkie PM 135 and Bro. William Niven PM 133 HM 135. The Poet's fictitious meeting with Death was re enacted with costume whilst Bro. Gourlay recited Tam O' Shanter
Bro.Danny Baird PM was in excellent form as Toastmaster and kept the night going in a most humorous fashion. The main event of the evening was the Immortal memory which was proposed by Bro. David Rae PM. Bro. David displayed a most passionate appreciation of the Poet's life and left the company with no doubt as to his feelings of Burns' contribution to the world.
The Toast to the Lassies was given by Bro. Gavin Barrie PM who was his usual self sparing no blushes and pulling no punches in his summing up of the fair sex. RWM Bro. David Wason 566 toasted Lodge St James.
The "Farewell to the Brethren of St James" was recited by Depute Master Bro. Graham McCrone. A rather moving reading which reflected Burns mood as he prepared to emigrate. Bro. Graham delivered this reading very appropriately and was well received by all present.
As the night drew to a close, the entertainment continued with a depiction of the Twa Dugs. The Company then joined in singing the Star O' Rabbie Burns and Auld Lang Syne, then each took off their separate way and resolved to meet some ither day.
